Product Recall

 

April 29, 2009 — Personal Care Products of Bingham Farms, MI is voluntarily conducting a nationwide recall of all lots of Personal Care non-acetone nail polish remover, conditioner enriched with gelatin, 6 fl. oz., UPC 4815592076, because it does not meet product specifications and has the potential to cause chemical burns to the fingers of users.

The product has been sold nationwide in small discount retail stores and retailers are being instructed to remove the product from sale and to return it to Personal Care Products.

Personal Care has received two complaints of burns to the fingers resulting from the use of the product.        

Any person who purchased a bottle of Personal Care non-acetone nail polish remover, conditioner enriched with gelatin is urged to return it to the store of purchase for a refund. Consumers with questions may contact Personal Care Products at 1-248-258-1555, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. EDT.

One Way Not to Control Swine Flu

Some counties in the United States have voters who do not want undocumented and/or illegals to be given emergency health care. Admittedly treatment in “Emergency Rooms” at hospitals is dramatically more costly than treatment at a clinic or doctor’s office, however, those without health care have no option. Only at an emergency clinic can they garner treatment.

So when the Swine Flu reaches epidemic proportions in the United States, as most experts predict will happen, (not deaths necessarily but infected citizens) all the people with the lowest paying jobs in the country will not be able to be treated.  

They also won’t be able to stay home from work because they desperately need the work.  Many of these will be people who work in the “service” industry; i.e. waiters and waitresses, cooks and busboys, housecleaners and baby-sitters. These are the invisible people who serve the rest of us every day. 

Does that make sense?

Well Then, Consider These . . ……………………….  In a hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, patients always died in the same bed, on Sunday morning, at about 11:00 am, regardless of their medical condition.  This puzzled the doctors and some even thought it had something to do with the supernatural. No one could solve the mystery as to why the deaths occurred around 11:00 am Sunday, so a team of experts was assembled to investigate the cause of the incidents.  The next Sunday morning, a few minutes before 11:00 am., all of the doctors and nurses nervously waited outside the ward to see for themselves what the terrible phenomenon was all about. Some were holding wooden crosses, prayer books, and other holy objects to ward off the evil spirits.  Just when the clock struck 11:00, Pookie Johnson, the part-time Sunday sweeper, entered the ward and unplugged the life support system so he could use the vacuum cleaner. Still Having a Bad Day?  Think about this. The average cost of rehabilitating a seal after the Exxon Valdez Oil spill in Alaska was $80,000.00. At a special ceremony, two of the most expensively saved animals were being released back into the wild amid cheers and applause from onlookers.  A minute later, in full view, a killer whale ate them both. Still think its a Bad Day?  A woman came home to find her husband in the kitchen shaking frantically, almost in a dancing frenzy, with some kind of wire running from his waist towards the electric kettle. Intending to jolt him away from the deadly current, she whacked him with a handy plank of wood, breaking his arm in two places.  Up to that moment, he had been happily listening to his Walkman. Are Ya OK Now? – No?  Two animal rights defenders were protesting the cruelty of sending pigs to a slaughterhouse in Bonn , Germany . Suddenly, all two thousand pigs broke loose and escaped through a broken fence, stampeding madly.  The two helpless protesters were trampled to death. What you still think you have trouble?  Terrorist Khay Rahnajet didn’t pay enough postage on a letter bomb. It came back with ‘Return to Sender’ stamped on it.  Forgetting it was the bomb, he opened it and was blown to bits. God is Good!  There now, Feeling Better ?

Swine Flu Update

World Health Organization has increased the threat for a Pandemic from Level 3 to Level 4.  The highest threat level is a 6 but WHO doesn’t feel present danger level is that hight.

New cases have been identified in Israel and New Zealand.  Additional cases have been identified in Los Angeles and one  person familiar with the situation said there is little doubt that the there will be a substantial outbreak here, however, there is no way to judge the severity of the infection.  Many U.S. residents get flu shots every year and that should lessen the severity. We have better options for sterility in this country with clean water readily available; we are more able to identify the sick and treat them quickly.

As of this writing there is strong evidence that the first case was on a pig farm in Vera Cruz, however, that person has not died.

Also even though it is referred to as a “swine” flu, so far there has been no notification of any pig that died from it.

Washing hands is still considered the #1 treatment for avoiding infection. Stay home if you feel ill with flu like symptoms. Make sure you cover your mouth and nose if you sneeze. Avoid close contact and crowded places.

Beach Soccer Fans Headed For Seal Beach

Beach Soccer Comes to Seal Beach this Saturday and Sunday, May 2/3. The city  will host the Copa Cabana Beach Soccer’s 2^nd series of games this year. 

Beach Soccer has been around for over 30 years but has really grown in popularity during the last three years. Two weeks ago the Copa Cabana Beach  soccer teams played to over 4,000 fans in Oxnard.

The U.S. Beach Soccer national Team began training in Huntington Beach on April 2 under head coach Eddie Soto.  Of the 18 players called into that  camp, 12 will be selected to participate at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.  The team will be vying for a spot at the 2009 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Dubai from Nov. 16-22

Its estimated that over 5,000 will come to Seal Beach this weekend so city parking will be at a premium.

*The parking areas next to the piers will fill up early so if you want to park its suggested you arrive early in the morning. The east side of the pier has a lot of equipment and lumber stored for the boardwalk renovation so parking is greatly restricted.

*On Saturday teams should register 1/1/2 hours before their first game and remember to bring signed liability waivers for each player.

*Players should your schedules Thursday evening for late changes.

Conservation Group to Honor Nancy Donaven

The Orange County League of Conservation Voters announced their annual dinner is scheduled for Thursday, May 14 at the University Club on the UCI campus. This year Nancy Donaven Past President of the Bolsa Chica Land Trust is receiving a Special Lifetime Environmental Achievement Award for her decades of work in protecting the environment.

Other honorees are Elizabeth Lambe, for her work in stopping the toll road extension.  Jerry Collamer is also being recognized for his efforts along with the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association. Preventing the extension of this road was a huge environmental win this year and the board of the OCLCV thought it appropriate to recognize some of the leaders involved in the fight.

The Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach is being recognized as the Environmental Non-Profit of the Year. They take in wild birds and mammals, which are all too often injured due to human activity. The work they do in healing injured and sick wild animals is truly commendable.

The recognition dinner is an important fundraiser for the OCLCV, which supports candidates for local office who share our concern for the health of our local environment.

FDA Warning on Alfalfa Sprouts

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today recommended that consumers not eat raw alfalfa sprouts, including sprout blends containing alfalfa sprouts, until further notice because the product has been linked to Salmonella serotype Saintpaul contamination. Other types of sprouts have not been implicated at this time.
