The Orange County Sierra Club sponsors the “Shipley Nature Center to the Beach” Walking Tour on Saturday, April 4.
In conjunction with Centennial Earth Month. You’ll walk a moderately paced 7 mile hike with almost no gain in Huntington Beach as the city celebrates ‘Earth Month”.  Meet 9 am at the picnic shelter near the café called “Breakfast in the Park” near the lake in Huntington Central Park.  You can take the bus to the park or park your car at the corner of Lakeview Dr. and Central Park Dr.  We will hike through an urban forest to the beach and over the bridge to the new ocean inlet to a rest stop.  Bring water, lunch and sturdy shoes.  Rain cancels.  Leaders Stephanie and Ed Pacheco

No you’re not dreaming there really is an Orange County Happy Hour Week!  Started by the founders of Orange County Restaurant week, Happy Hour Week will feature great drinks and deals at restaurants and bars throughout Orange County.

3/23/09 – 3/28/09 Congressonal Cup 2009  Belmont Pier Spectator Area, Long Beach

Hosted by the Long Beach Yacht Club, the Congressional Cup is one of the oldest and most prestigious Match Racing Events in the world, and this year it is the only grade 1 match race regatta that will be sailed in the United States. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 28th, 2009.  Annual Seal Beach Police Association Polar Plunge to Benefit Special Olympics Southern California. The Seal Beach Police Department has long been a fundraising partner with Special Olympics Southern California . This is annual Plunge and we hope to raise $50,000 for Special Olympics athletes! ALL PROCEEDS will be given directly to Special Olympics Southern California. Because of this generous support, Special Olympics Southern California is able to reach out and provide year round training and sports programs for both children and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout Southern California. Brochures can be picked up at the front counter of the Seal Beach Police Department, Seal Beach Pier Police Substation, or at the City of Seal Beach Parks and Recreation Department office.

Public Wildlife Refuge Tour
Last Saturday of Every Month
(Except December)

The Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge, 800 Seal Beach Blvd. provides tours to the public, however all volunteers must fill out a form in advance.

The forms are available on the website. Visit Website or call 562-598-1024 (leaving a voice mail is fine)

The tours are on the last Saturday of every month except December.
Saturdays from  8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Vans will run from 8:30 to 9:00 to transport visitors from the parking lot to the refuge, and will then run from 11:00 to 12:00 to take you back to your car.

IMPORTANT –  Because the National Wildlife Refuge is located on a Naval Weapons Station, all participants
must register at least two days in advance and provide their full name and phone number or they will be denied entrance.

The website has a film discussing the central component of their presentation.  A  video ,”Refuges Are” , that relates the history of the National Wildlife Refuge System as sanctuaries for Endangered Species and Migratory Birds and the Important Work of Volunteers in the Recovery of and Maintenance of these Resources.

The Seal Beach refuge has been a spectacularly successful endeavor and we are all extremely proud of the work that’s been done.
