Comments Off on Finally Huntington Beach says “No” to additional alcohol licenses downtown!

It was a victory for Huntington Beach residents last night at the Planning Commission; an ABC license was denied in the Downtown area.

The next step will be the City Council where we will face stiff opposition.

Kim Kramer advised What’s Up in Seal Beach that HBDRA, a coaliton of Like Minded Huntington Beach residents, was successful in their appeal to a group of Newly elected Planning Commissioners. Unfortunately Erik Peterson changed his position which made the vote closer than was anticipated.

Kramer said that Peterson’s vote was very disappointing since he had remained totally silent during the debate, and then “flip-flopped” on his previously declared position against the license.

I am visiting my 87-year old father in Laguna Woods.

He will be downsizing into an assisted living facility and has asked that his excess furnishings go to a family from Haiti.

I am wondering if you can direct me to someone who might be able to facilitate such a transfer.

Thanks!

Comments Off on Cabbie Accused of Leisure World Rape

A cab driver that  is accused of raping a passenger in Leisure World /Seal Beach may have additional victims, the Orange County District Attorney’s office announced Tuesday.

Investigators are asking the public’s help identifying potential victims who may not have come forward after an assault. Orlando Bruce Bosley, 57, is accused of knocking out his victim, dragging her inside her mother’s Leisure World home and raping her as she drifted in and out of consciousness.

“Based on the circumstances of the crime and the defendant’s boldness in knocking her unconscious, attacking her in her own home and raping her, our fear is that there could be other potential victims,” said Farrah Emami, spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.

Bosley, a Westminster resident, is charged with rape and could face up to eight years in prison if convicted. Bosley remains free on $100,000 bail, and is scheduled for arraignment on Jan. 18.

It was on July 6 that Bosley allegedly picked up a 45-year-old woman in Sunset Beach in his  “A White & Yellow Cab, Inc.” car for a ride to her mother’s house in Leisure World, where she was staying while her mother was out of town.

Bosley punched the woman in the face as she was looking into her purse for cab fare, said police. According to Emami, Bosley is accused of taking the woman to her mother’s home and raping her inside the house as she went in and out of consciousness.

Bosley is 5-foot, 9-inches tall, weighs 160 pounds and has brown eyes and black hair, according to court records. Anyone with information about this case or anyone who believes they have been a victim is encouraged to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Randy Litwin at (714) 347-8794

All too many of those of  us “boomers” and older…have difficulty with the terms used by Information Technology experts.

We’re not dumb we’re just not sure what these often cryptic words mean.

Well here’s a very simplified version put together by some British language experts to help us. (After all they created the language..who could be better suited to explain it!)

Homecoming!

Watch this short video of our returning warriors!

Yes they are soldiers but as it has always been in America they are also fathers, mothers, sisters and brothers.  This heartwarming video will bring a feeling of pride to all who see it ….and a tear or two!

Too bad this YouTube can’t be shown to those we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

If they could stop for a moment and see the potential happiness their own continued life would mean to THEIR loved ones – – perhaps they’d have second thoughts about dying…in suicide missions…for the promise of future happiness with 77 unknown women in heaven.

Count your blessings, and give thanks to all who serve for the rest of us!

Whoops…careful on that fruitcake for the holidays!

Comments Off on Whoops…careful on that fruitcake for the holidays!

The American College of Asthma, Allergy and Immunization (ACAAI) warns against certain food items as a holiday gift.   Dr. Myron Zitt (really) says “Food allergens lurk in all kinds of holiday treats, from fruit cake to cookies.”

Instead send them a gift certificate to one of Seal Beach’s GREAT restaurants.  (Some with 20% discounts!)

Other suggestions are stay out of the pet store, avoid costume jewelry, (24 karat gold is OK) ..and 100% cotton is a better choice than angora or cashmere.

So you think you’ve owned your car too long?

Comments Off on So you think you’ve owned your car too long?

Mr. Allen Swift of  Springfield , MA. received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new – as a high school graduation gift in 1928.

He drove it up until his death last year…..at the age of 102 !

Allen and the Rolls were the oldest living combination of how long an owner had owned and driven a new car.

It was donated it to the Springfield museum after his death. It has 170,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition. (82 years)

That’s approximately 2000 miles per year…

Still runs  like a Swiss watch. (Remember them? We used them before we had cell phones to tell time.Car looks  like a million bucks..which is pretty close to its value.  It was built when people could afford to take real pride in their work. (Got paid less but worked more hours. It was made with REAL heavy gauge steel too…didn’t need to worry about mileage because gas was 15 cents a gallon!)

Doesn’t get any better than that.
