In a surprise announcement, the Norwegian committee announced this morning that President Barack Obama would be this years recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”.
The announcement resulted in gasps from surprised reporters in the room who were obviously surprised by the committees decision to award the Prize to Obama who has been in office only 9 months and will be only the 3rd sitting American President to receive this honor. When asked about the decision Jagland said the decision was “unanimous” and came with ease. “Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future,” the committee said.
